1990AT OD Failure 200 1990

Kept having intermitent OD failures. Got under the car, reached up, grabbed the wires, followed them down to the solenoid and what appears to be a plastic cap, crumbled into my hand and face. Took out the two bolts holding it in, unplugged the harness. One of the wires had completely frayed off. Other was still securely on.

Question is this, too expensive to replace, $160-190, depends on retailer, there is supposed to be a way around this. Something about a bypass by charging the solenoid? I have checked the archives, but didn't find the fix. If someone knows of a way to make the town car an out of town car again, please let me know.
