speedometer quit 200 1981

As to the source of the cable, I would suggest going for the new part. If you go to pull one of these from a junker, you will likely find the plastic very brittle. I am speaking as to the piece which connects the cable to the speedometer itself.

Also of note here is that the folks over at IPD look to have your part for around $35(US) and if you shop around, you may even find one for a bit less. Perhaps Volvoworld or FCP Groton will have the same part.
