Much Thanks to brickboard; and a question 700

This is my first post; but i'm a regular brickboard reader (have an 84 245 with 230k . . . runs like a charm thanks to brickboard; and a recently purchased 89 740T).

When i recently purchased the 740T, i was told the transmission was bad, and wildly rough shifting, and so i bought the car (perfect body, leather interior, etc) absurdly cheap. Thanks to brickboard, i simply adjusted the kickdown cable and now can't even feel when it shifts. I, and many others, owe a lot of thanks to brickboard.

Current question: after the car starts, and after it warms up (and only after it warms up) the engine randomly misfires when idling in park/neutral, or when coasting in gear below 1500rpm. It's something i can live with . . . but want this car running as smoothly as my brick that's five years older. I've cleaned the IAC valve and even swapped with known good one; have cleaned all elctrical connections and coated with dialectric grease; wiring is in really good shape; and shop receipts from previous owner show that all caps/wires, and even the ignition control unit have been replaced within a year. This year/model doesn't have OBD, and because there's almost NO local service stations here in GF that really know volvos specifically, i rely on blackboard for all my questions. I notice the hall sensor has come dislodged, but when i manually touch it, or try to re-insert it with engine running, it doesn't alter the misfiring problem (and the tach jumps when the car is turning over . . . so the sensor is working).

As it's going to get unbearably cold here pretty soon, i want to deal with this asap. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Brian
