'93 945 na (California car) In-tank Pump & Oil Separator 900 1993

I've tried to remove the in-tank pump on this car, and could not get enough clearance through the floorboards to pull it out. Is there some other trick I should try, or do I need to remove the tank? Car also has a leaky front seal and I can feel the air coming out of the oil fill cap when it's running. I've cleaned the flame trap, but the oil separator seems to be located behind some mechanism that's related to the egr valve. On my 240's (non-California) I was able to remove the oil separator without removing the intake. Is this possible on the 945? Thanks for the help.
