won't start when it's really hot

My 88 740 GLE has an intermittent starting problem. When it's hot outside and the cars been driven for awhile, it sometimes doesn't start. When I try to crank the engine, all of the dash lights are on and everything seems fine, but absolutely nothing happens. No cranking or nothing on the engine. If given a chance to "cool" off (ie 30 minutes-a few hours) the car starts up fine. I've never had a problem starting the car early in the morning or when it's cool/cold. I've had the starter, altenator and battery checked and they are all "ok." When the starter was checked, it wasn't hot. Could it be the solenoid on the starter?

thanx in advance guys,
Chrix
