240 Cruise Control Issues 200 1990

For some reason, the cruise control on my vechicle has just stopped working alltogether. My theory to why it may not work dates back to an incident back in July. I accidently shorted out the original cluster when changing a bulb. The "new" instrument cluster I got for my car was from a salvaged 1988 (I think) wagon that didn't appear to have the cruise control option. Does that have any effect on whether or not my cruise control should work? Or is the cruise control something totally independent of the instrument cluster?

Thanks!

-Steve
