stupidly damaged AMM replaced with non - VOLVO! 700 1987

Doing some harness work on 87 745 and so removed the AMM and hosing for better access. Missing screen on AMM so stuck finger in there and buggered those little filament wires. Went to the pick and pull - yes we have an 86 - found AMM already pulled though - walking past an Audi and see an AMM that looks just like mine - different last 3 numbers (135 I think), same size, same connector, so I figure I'll try it and return it if it doesn't work. Guess what - it works just fine. Nice idle, very smooth acceleration. What gives here, I thought there were no substitutions allowed?
