Electrical Problem 700

I have a 1988 740 GLE. Recently my car broke down, I jumped it, and it contiuned working for a while. Soon I found out that my alternator was only sending 7 amps to the battery when it was supposed to be sending 70. I bought a new alternator and battery to try to fix this problem(the battery was also shot). The odd thing is that the car will shut off when electrical things are on(ex. heat, cd player, lights), even after a new alternator was put in. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
