noisy V6 engine 700

Hi All;
My daughter brought her 89 760GLE home from college for Dad (me) to service etc for the coming winter months. It's a great car, with no engine or other problems in 256000Km., and runs like a top. If I didn't have too many other vehicles already I would like that one for myself.
I notice the engine is getting pretty clackety; sounds like valve train to me. Is there a specified interval for valve lash adjustment on these V6's? It runs on synthetic, and burns no oil, and had gobs of power, but the noisy upper end is a bother to me.
Any suggestions (other than the usual "burn the V6-powered car" suggestions)?
Thanks
