strut spring clunk 200

Just replaced both struts on my 89 240. Having a problem on the right side strut. When I turn the wheel all the way to the right and then turn back to the left I am hearing a clunk. I got under there and had a helper turn the wheel. I looked to make sure the spring wasnt hitting on the wheel well and it didnt seem to be. What I noticed is that when turning back to the left the spring was catching and then would spring loose making the noise. I put new mounts on so I dont get it. I made sure the spring was seated well when I put it back together. I was concerned about the strut nut and was not sure if I got it tight enough with the impact wrench. The nut was tightened down to the 5th thread. I noticed that the old strut was down to the 7th thread. So I dont know if it's too tight ot too loose. Another thing is that the previous strut had 2 washers under the nut which were bent and I reused them. Also noticed the rubber spacer that goes on the bottom of the strut was missing so I put it back the way it was. Thanks for any suggestions. This board has been a life saver! Phil
