One more reason to hate Scan Tech 200

The speedometer cable that I bought for M46 transmission made by Scan Tech will not work. That is to say, I can't connect it to the speedometer. The length is fine, it connects to the overdrive unit with no problem, but the speedometer itself will not accept the thimble (for lack of a better term) at the end of the jacket. It is just too tight a fit to go on. I can't even get the twist lock collar close enough to the speedo drive to even start it on. I don't think it's me. I'm sure it's the cable.
But before I condemn Scan Tech once and for all can anyone tell me of anything that I might be doing wrong? I don't see how that could be the case since it's a slip fit. I really think the cable is just too tight.
