Strange knocking from engine. 2.8L V6 760GLE (B280e) 700

i own a D reg 760 with the later 2.8 V6 (B280E) engine. When the engine is started cold, i have a strange tapping sound from possibly the nearside bank of cylinders. as the engine warms up the tapping/knocking quietens down and dulls. When warm, at idle, you can barely hear the tapping, but as soon as the engine accelerates the tapping/knocking can be heard and it's in time with the engine revs. i'm not loosing oil or water and it seems to be running fine. i want to sort the problem before it becomes a problem, but if it's gonna be expensive the car will be sold. Any ideas???
