oil adapter 900

I am about to replace the o-ring that is sandwiched in the oil adapter/oil cooler on my 94 945T wagon, and I am wondering what is the best course of action. I realize I have to drain the oil but is it necessary to also drain the coolant? Does anyone know the size of the bolt that is in the middle of filter housing. I am hoping that this is the source of my oil leak which continues to lose about 1/2 qt every 2-3 weeks. All other eals look good, I am not leaving puddles but when on interstate oil will back splash onto the rear window. If I were buring oil I am assuming this wouldn't happen. Replacing this o-ring seems pretty straight forward however the FAQ does not address it. thanks for the input.
