Proper Repair of 200 Wheel Stud Threads: 82 242 200

Hi Guys,

I want to mount new tires and wheels on my 82 242, and think that I should first clean up the threads on the wheel studs where necessary. None of these studs look stripped or badly worn. I have used anti-sieze compound on the stud threads for years and torqued them to the proper spec. by hand.

However, after years of use and a few unfortunate encounters with wheel mounting guys with power torque wrenches the new lug nuts that I have purchased do no spin on without friction in some cases.

The advice I got was to simply buy a thread repair kit and employ it to clean up the thread surfaces. I assume this is a case hardened cutting nut of some kind that will smooth the threads by spinning it up the length of stud threads.

Are there any tips or caveats that you think I should keep in mind while doing this? For example, I assume that I would use a good quality light oil in the process. Other thoughts? Thanks.

Regards, Dave
