Pesky Air cleaner thermostat 200 1993

I had my air filter out today and noticed that the air cleaner thermostat had failed...again. I've had three of these fail on different cars and this is the second failure I've had in this car. Not sure if the Texas climate is to blame.

It just seems to be a pretty unreliable system. Right now, I have the whole thermostat removed and the air cleaner set up to suck just cool air. I'm just about ready to give up and leave it this way.

Anybody have similar experieces?

BTW...it's a real pain replacing the thermostat too. I put it in the freezer for a while so that it compresses enought to install...any other tricks? (in case you convince me not to give up on it :-)

Thanks
