Temp gauge 244 200

Hi,

I recently bought a really nice 1989 244 DL. The only thing wrong with this car is that the temp gauge is weird.

Most of the time it sits all the way down at the bottom. Occasionally it rises to about 1/4 of the way up, stays there a while and then goes back down.

The guy I bought it from says he changed the thermostat a couple months before. The car is definitely not overheating. However, I'd feel a lot more comfortable if the thing was working OK.

What should I check next? The sending unit? If so, where is it and where do I check it?

thanks, mike
