245 rear shocks and springs or only springs? 200

I bought a 79 245 yesterday with around 200k miles. The ride is a little on the bouncy side. I don't believe the struts have ever been replaced and the rear has springs only (no shocks). I was told that this car should have shocks mounted. Any truth to that? Also, if anyone has performed any mild suspension upgrades on their 245's I would like to know what you replaced (biggest bang for the buck, etc.)
