front wiper motor removal 200 1990

Hi - Im trying to undertake my first DIY project by replacing the front wiper motor on my 90 245. I have removed the glovebox and have access to the mounting nut that holds the wiper motor to the inside of the body of the car and connects to the wiper linkages. My problem is that I can't loosen this nut to remove it from the rest of the wiper linkage. Its pretty tight in there and whenever I try to move the nut, the entire linkage (and therefore the wipers) move along with. I've tried using WD-40 to loosen it, but to no avail. Any suggestions on getting the nut loosened? Also, I followed the Bentley manual instructions by removing the retaining bolts that hold the motor inside the engine compartment first. Thanks for any advice.
