How good is the 6cyl engine 900

I was considering another 740 wagon to replace the one handed down to my daughter, but I am seeing some very nice 960 wagons for sale. I am a long time Volvo owner and fan but with 240's & 740's only. Tell me the truth about the drivetrain in the 960, weak points etc, what to look for and any other buyers tips on these models. thanks
