Good point, one to remember. I don't see why that would happen, but it apparently does.

From your seeing the belt hanging down below the engine bay, I would assume that you do not have the spash guard pan in place. One of the things that guard does is protect the alternator from road stuff. The one I got from fpcgroton is a good one, did not come with the bolts, though.

Were BOTH alternator belts broken? The would seem quite unusual to me. If you buy a new pair, be sure they are a matched set. That means more than just being the same size. In belt manufacture, a huge long tube belt is first made and then cut up into the belts. A matched set is a pair made right next to one another. They stretch and wear at the same rate. I have had best luck with Volvo dealer alternator belts, even though they cost more.
