Agree perfectly with your DGV vs. SU evaluation... but DCOEs don't need to cost you fuel economy. It might cost you a lot to get them to the point of tune where they'll run economically, but there is no reason they can't be tuned to deliver at least the same mileage as SUs, if driven at a similar performance level.
