valve shims, are they visibly different, or do I need a mic? 200

Hi gang!

My A cam has arrived from Canada (thanks Pierre!!), I have the new timing belt and seals, and this weekend is the weekend to put that bad boy to work.

In preparation for this, I grabbed a handful of valve shims from the JY. I must have toe-up four different bricks, and all the shims seemed to be EXACTLY the same thickness. I laid them side by side on the edge of a window, and drug my thumbnail across and back, eyeballed it, and couldn't see a thing.

Now, obviously, .05mm is not a big difference, but you'd think I could still see/feel the difference. Am I nuts?

If I need a mic to accurately identify them, can I go with a cheapie from Harbor Frieght, or will I need a high dollar item?
