Voltage Regulator Question 200 1991

Hi all!

Following your sage advice I was able to install a new voltage regulator/brush assembly in our 91 in about 30 min, start to finish. FWIW, the new unit is made by Kaehler (sp?) in Germany. It seems to work fine (output now at 14.1 volts at idle, 75+ amps at speed), and the price was right (about $16).

Noted a (possible) major difference between the replacement and the original: The original had a black resistor-like part (marked "5%") soldered between the terminals. Any ideas on the function? How necessary is it? Is it worth the additional $50 the dealer wants for the OEM replacement (now made in Spain)?

Thanks in advance!
