I just saw this message and can commiserate ... I had an almost identical problem with my '89 740 GLE ... very frustrating. Turned out to be a variety of things, including the fuel ECU. I'm about to post a "how it turned out" message on the board, so in the interest of not using up bandwidth by repeating myself, let me just direct you there. I'll post today (10/30/03) and the subject will be "Resolved...rough idle, ecu, etc." Good luck.
