Well, it finally happened .... the brake light switch on my 65 gave up the ghost ... just wouldn't turn them on any more .... so off I went to the guys in the club and came up with 2 replacements..... I thought ..... the first was off Paul MacKay's 123GT ... I installed it and as I was attaching the second line ... off snapped the tab ... Hmmmmm ..... so looking around there was Paul's 122 ... so we robbed the one off that ...... well when installed and hooked up the brake lights were out .... so far so good .... turned on the ignition and stepped on the brake ... low and behold "BRAKE LIGHTS" BONUS !!!! Took my foot OFF the pedal .... brake lights stayed ON ..... Hmmmmmmmm this is NOT GOOD !!!! Called VOLVO of Halifax ... sure no problem have one in a couple of days .... called today .. YUP it's in ... drove all the way to Halifax to find it was the pedal mounted switch ... GRRRRR .... Had called IPD and talked to Shayne earlier in the day ... price was reasonable ... but there was that darned thing called an international border ... so Shayne tells me .. "Hey, you know these are the same switches that are used on the old Beetle ... " ... So called local VW dealer ... uh sorry we don't carry stuff that old ..... Called closest VW Indy ... only works on water cooled V-Dubs .. so fraid we don't have one ... called next VW Indy several miles away ... and it was closing time .... um .. would you have among your souvenirs a hadraulic brakelight switch for an old Beetle ????? 'Just a sec I'll ask the Guys ..... a few minutes later ... I'm sitting here with one of them in my hand ... PLEASE can someone wait 'til I can get there ...?? I'm in the city from Windsor and really don't want to make the return trip tomorrow ... sure enough they said they would wait .... to end it up I got the RIGHT switch for a reasonable price from a really nice Indy VW guy in Harrietsfield, just outside of Halifax .... I can heartily recommend SETTLE'S VW SERVICE !!! 810 Old Sambro Road, Harrietsfield, Halifax County, NS .... and if you are on the hunt for a replacement Hydraulic operated brake light switch ... check out your local V-DUB guys .... they DO use BOSCH Electrics too ...
