HELP! STUCK SOCKET DURING STARTER INSTALL 200 1985

I have spent two hours trying to remove the 19 mm socket for the upper starter bolt, to no avail. I tried installing the bolt/screw by turning the socket, but that won't work either. It appears that the socket is lodged between the body of the car and the bolt. I've tried screwdrivers and ratchets to get the socket out.
