Hi - thanks for tuning in.
PROBLEM #1: Intermittent Rough Running
The 240 wagon (210k mi) has been "stumbling" now and then for awhile, getting more common with time. Generally runs fine when we're moving. When stop lights turn green it can stumble or stall when I try to move on.
PROBLEM #2: Starts Rough Cold, Won't Start When Warm
In the mornings, when cold, it starts rough (takes a few tries, then coughs a bit) then becomes smooth and we're off. After sitting at work for 8 hours, it starts the same way.
When I stop for an errand on the way home from work, the car will not start after sitting warm for 5 or more minutes. It will crank and crank with zero coughing or sputtering. I have to wait for 1/2 hour minimum, or 2 hours, or even overnight, at which point the car starts in its usual way.
Last weekend it quit on the highway by stumbling and then stalling. It would not restart. After waiting 20-30 minutes, it started roughly. I had to drive home at high revs in low gears because it stumbled reliably in 4th gear. I should mention I was pulling a 2000 lb sailboat in the rain at the time.
I would appreciate hearing your advice!
Cheers,
Brian
