1990 240DL SW - Automatic Trans. Shift Issues 200 1990

Hey all - new to the B-Board. Great forum.

Here's the issue. Just purchased this vehicle. I've just lost my '89 240DL SW in an accident.

This has strong engine but it shifts "rough." It's OK going from 1st to 2nd. Accelerating in 2nd, it will not shift to 3rd - even as the engine RPM's climb - unless I back off the pedal. It is the same going from 3rd to OD. The shifts often smooth but sometime "jump" into gear.

I had thought that my problem was low transmission fluid but have checked it and have topped it off. Other messages in this forum has pointed to the kickdown cable. I just don't know ehough about it to make a well educated guess. Are the shifts electronically controlled or are they strictly mechanical?
