1996 850 wagon purchase

I am considering the purchase of a 1996 850 wagon purchase. The asking price is $3,000 and it has 260,000 miles. The owner claims that all major maintenance has been done by her son who is a "certified volvo master mechanic." Would this be a crazy purchase? I now have a 1988 740 wagon with 140m miles, but I am the third owner and the prior owners did not do a good job of maintaining it.

What are your general thoughts on this model? Is it a good car? Are they as reliable as the older volvos?
