New to Volvos and the brickboard 200 1981

Hello everybody

I just acquired an 81 245 with M46 and alloys. Nice car, runs very well, but has not really been well kept for the last 4 years of ownership. Vibrates a bit at highway speeds, steering has just a touch of deadspace here and there, nothing too noticeable.

My question is how to determine if the power steering rack actually needs to be replaced.

Thanks for any help, I'm a weekend shadetree mechanic who has never owned a Volvo before but always wanted to.

Thanks

Scott in Auburn, California
