544 safety 444-544

Last night I had a gruesome reminder of how dangerous driving is, first on scene to a bad head on collision in the middle of no where due to ice.
It made me think about my beloved 544. changing the front seats to include a head rest or to add one of those strap on head rest kits seemed like a good idea. The other involves the steering column. On my 1800 and 122 it was easy to convert to the later model collapsable column. But the 544 does not interchange with a 122 from my measurements.
Has anyone else ever tried to convert thier steering column to a collapsable one?
Thanks,
-Erik
