Something is not right with the Clutch Petal... 200 1980

I've been driving a '80 244 (that I mentioned in a thread below) with an M-46 the last few days, and the clutch on that car is amazing! Almost no freeplay, and it has an almost springy action to it.

Now, I go back to my 245, which is the subject of this thread. The clutch in that car feels awful. I just put a new clutch cable in, and it felt a bit better for a little while, but it's back to it's old stiff squeaking self.

Another odd thing... Even with the cable properly adjusted under the car, I still get a lot of free play on the petal it self. Way too much for my liking.

Is there some kind of spring up above where the petals attach to the car or something? Any other ideas?

Thanks as always.
