What is this? 900

Okay... one last time here.

What is this flap obscuring the inspection slot on the front caliper of my 1995 940 T?

I thought logically it was some kind of weather protective flap, since it is hinged on one side and logically one would just pry it out and get on with the brake pad inspection.

HOWEVER... after 10 minutes of tugging, prying with a screwdriver and generally pushing it to the break point, it does not budge. Almost like it's spot welded. Is this connected to the caliper springs somehow?

Anyone know? This is not mentioned in Haynes, of course. Couldn't find any reference in the FAQ either.
