Going crazy, need to fix 200 1983

Motor mounts OK?

Not able to shift into first while motor is running, right?

Able to shift into first while motor is not running, right?

Seems it could be a clutch that does not fully release.

Any noise or 'rattle' in the shifter when trying to get into first, with the engine running.

I had a manual transmission car once, not a volvo, with a similar problem.

There is hardware that carries the clutch release lever inside the clutch housing. On the problem car I had, that hardware was very worn and partially broken. The result was that I could not get a full release of the clutch even though I had correctly adjusted everything outside of the clutch housing. Any shift was difficult but 1st was impossible because the engine was spinning the input shaft to the transmission and the syncronizing hardware in the transmission stopped the gears from making contact.

Hope you find the problem.
