AMM at fault for stalling, or other ideas? 200

I was using my '78 244 as a push vehicle to move my '84 parts car around the yard- yeah, I know, but I had removed too many parts for her to run on her own.
This was particularly frustrating, because half the time (at least) when I put the car into position and gave her gas to push, she would stall. She idles fine, idles in drive fine, but seems kind of "all or nothing" on acceleration- hesitates briefly, then jackrabbits. I don't plan on using the car to plow snow or anything, but I'm curious about the cause.

Thanks,
Matt
