question on firing order 700

I have to ask this question, I have noticed while reading through this thread people say the firing order of a 1990 740 gle b230f is 1342. They also say that on the cap from left to right the wires go 4312. If the rotor spins clockwise with the cam and the 3rd hole on the cap from the left is the number one cylinder would that not make the firing order 1243.. Please help me understand how this could be. Thanks,, Marc..
