Is Complete Tranny Fluid Change Advisable at 95K 900 1993

Hi, a quick question, please. Is it advisable to change the trans. fluid with a "flush" type complete change at 95K miles? The fluid is a bit "brown" but doesn't smell. I don't think that the tranny fluid has been changed in about 40k+ miles. I've heard statements to the effect "that because ATF has detergent properties, new fluid could "wash away" some of the gunk that is keeping the trans. working properly and then could open up a ton of problems."
Also, the local reputable Volvo guys (Cech Brothers in Orlando, FL.) said that the new Volvo tech bulletins suggest that a partial fluid change (pan and refill) is now what is recommended by Volvo rather than a "Machine Flush" complete fluid change. Any help or advice would be great.

Thanks,

Lee in Orlando

'79 240 and '93 850, isn't every 14 years soon enough for an upgrade?
