Rusty floor, water leaks 700 1989

My '89 740 Turbo sedan has substantial rust through in the driver's side floor and minor rust through on the passenger side. The car has never had a collision or body repair of any kind, and is very clean except for this spot. It only has 160,000 miles on it.

I have carpet and soundproofing out. The floor appears to have rusted through from the top, because I find minor rust spots scattered around the driver's and passenger footwells.

Has anyone done this repair? Any recommendations? Any thoughts on where the water is coming in?

Also, my SRS light came on when water found its way into the car. I think that the connector to the bag, which is low on the floor, got wet. I've unplugged the bag for now. Anyone know whether this water issue is likely to be a big deal for the crash sensor, wiring, or other component of the SRS?
