Totaled '91 240 - what to expect from insurance company?

Through no fault of his own, our 17 y/o son totaled our beautiful 1991 240 with only 130k miles. A pickup truck pulled out in front of him and a passenger on an intersection (one of those nice intersections with a 55mph speed limit and nothing for traffic control but stop signs) and he didn't have enough time to stop before hitting the truck in the side. Fortunately, the car performed as designed from a safety standpoint and nobody was hurt beyond a few bumps and bruises. The police working the accident cited the truck driver as being at fault. The car's front end was wrecked, with a crushed radiator, buckled hood, bent fenders, twisted right front suspension, so it is undoubtedly a write-off.

This is the first time I have had an "older" high mileage car totaled. Do we have any chance of receiving enough money from the settlement to replace the our car with an equivalent 240? Does anybody have any suggestions for making sure that we receive a fair settlement? Thanks.

Glen Prater

PS - This was a 40 mph collision, and as a mechanical engineer/university faculty member who does research on vehicle body structure computer modeling, design, and optimization, I am VERY impressed by the way the 240 protected its occupants. Those of you who have opted to trust your loved ones to these Volvos can feel very good about that decision.
