'92 740T Idle question and richness. Conserned about next CA smog test. 700 1992

I have a '92 740T with 160K on it. The car starts and runs well, but there is something not right with the idle. Here are my observations:

1. Cold start is great and idle is smooth at or around 700 in drive.
2. When cold there is a slight hesitation upon acceleration.
3. Warm idle is hunting (not so smooth) between 500 and 600 in drive.
4. Warm idle exhaust smells off --rich maybe.
5. Runs fine otherwise and get 19-20 MPG.

The tune (plugs, fuel filter, air cleaner)is current, TB is clean, MAF and IAC are functioning correctly. No obvious vacuum leaks found the propane test. I suspect an O2 sensor, but the voltages are within spec. The FPR responds to the hose removal test, and no gas smell. I have not checked the temp sensor. The timing looks correct at about 7. It is a CA car with no rust or corrosion. All grounds look good (I have not cleaned all of them yet).

I am conserned that I will not pass my next emissions test. Any thoughts?

I did see someone mention that if the timing belt was off by one tooth strange things could happen????

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Bill
