AMM Question 200

In my unsucessful quest to find my cold running problem, I took a look at the AMM. The car is an 87'. Should it have a plate or something that opens and closes as you press the gas pedal? It's hard to describe. I was thinking there should be a plate or something that opens off a vacuum. Does anyone have any pictures of what the inside is supposed to look like? When I unplug the AMM the car runs okay, so I'm thinking this may the/or a contributor to my problem. Also, If anyone has had a similiar probem. When I first start the car I can't see any exhuast, even when the temp. is around 10, then within a couple of seconds it starts to shoot exhuast and runs fine? I don't know, it has a mind of it's own. Thanks a lot in advance for all your help.
