Accessing Engine Codes 900 1995

David P,

The "SERVICE" light is a reminder to the driver that it is time to shell out bux to the dealer. The service light turns on every 10k miles on a normally aspirated engine and every 5k on a turbo, to coincide with Volvo's recommended oil change and service interval. It will stay on for about two minutes.

The reset procedure is very simple: Find a small rubber plug near the bottom of the instrument cluster clear cover. Pull out the plug and you will see a small hole going into the instrument cluster. Insert a ball point pen ink tube into the hole and give it a firm push. This is, I think, a mechanical reset, not an electrical contact. Lights out. Find the plug, if you can, and put back in.

If "CHECK ENGINE" light is on then follow David A's procedure and check the most valuable FAQ.

Just a suggestion, please indicate the Volvo model, 940, turbo or n/a, (944, 945), or 960, with your questions or in your profile.

Good luck!
