1989 b230FT hints & experiences-Folks; over the years both my 744's have had problems.
smells of gas-metal return line to tank was corroded under the plastic clamps along the
frame. Replaced whole line with rubber gas line. Another gas smell day was caused by the
plastic 'spill ball valve' breaking free [located above the tank] Return fumes couldn't get
back to tank-resulting in a smell of gas.
1989 b234F-replaced timing belt-noticed the inside timing belt cover was breaking up. Cost to replace
was $400+ Canadian.Volvo has redesigned the cover! Result-lost motor a week later;
plastic jammed timing belt. Putting in a b230FT. On hold for the winter.
Surprise b234F has welded motor mounts-had to be cut off cross member before I could
bolt on the b230FT. mlittle@atcon.com
anyone have any luck replacing the plastic windshield seal??? Why not rubber?
oh, b234F has a trouble code box, the b230FT does not. Both are 1989's.
Then I see talk of turbo conversions of b230F and the mention of
"Then there's the DOHC head from the 740GLE 16 valve.""- a twin cam head; SO a major change to switch from
a single cam to Dual cams.And th b234 motor has a balance shaft and the interference HEAD??? . Plenty of things
to consider. Anyone want a b234 head to play with? Enough for now.
take care Mike Little
