Driver's door handle 200 1985

I had the driver's door handle replaced on my 245DL only a couple of years ago, and it's gradually deteriorated such that now, it won't even open the door. You pull the handle and you can feel the mechanism in there getting slack and sticky; it feels like it's broken inside. Does anyone know if I can take it apart and fix it? Or should I bite the bullet and buy a new door handle? None of the other 3 doors have had any such problem in the 8 years I've had the car, although since I'm single, they are used far less often than the driver's door.

Many thanks, all. -Dan

PS. New to the site, very happy to hear such a thing exists, thank you.
