Rattle in front driverside while driving over rough pavement 900

Hi All,

I have a obnoxious rattle in the front end that occurs when I drive over rough pavement. Driving over cobblestones is a ideal scenario. The brick is a 97 960 Wagon.

I have been through the suspension 5 or 6 times and thought it was the brakes. I ended up replacing the calipers as they had a few issues. That did nothing. I replaced the swaybar links (genuine volvo), ball joints, struts and swaybar bushings. I have also replaced the Power Steering rack which was defective (this was done about a year ago).

The only thoughts I have are that the swaybar link, although new, is bad (this happened to me once before).

something in the strut mount plate

My last thought is that the power steering rack may be the source of the noise. I noticed play when I pulled on the steering column and it looks like the connector that goes into the powersteering rack moves enough to make a small knock. Is this normal?

Any input would be appreciated!

Best,

Angus
