Coolant Temp Sensor 200 1981

Hi again

I've been trying to troubleshoot my new 81 245, shaky idle, and the smog test revealed max HC emissions. So far I have found a couple vacuum leaks, and I've changed the injector seals, new rotor and cap, but the shaky idle is still present. Car is not missing, starts and runs very well. This evening I removed and tested the coolant temp sensor, and it appears to give an errant ohm reading. I get 52 ohms across the terminals on the sensor. Heat the sensor in a pan of water to boil, and the reading changes by only a few ohms.

So I'm guessing this is my problem. High HC reading because the constant idle system is receiving errant info. This might also explain the shaky idle, and the fact that I don't get a cold high idle.

I suppose then my question is why didn't the check engine light signal an error? Or is the 81 with K-Jet (non turbo) not capable of such self diagnostic?

Thanks
