Hey all:
I tried to post this a little while ago, but it doesn't seem to have taken hold. So I'm trying again. Sorry in advance if it ends up as a duplicate.
I've really enjoyed this board during the past week or so, while invesigating my new purchase. That is to say I'm the happy new owner of a 1989 240 station wagon, blue, and in really nice shape, bodywise and, by all indications, enginewise. The OD light seems to come on and off as it pleases, but I'm of the mind (thanks to archival posts) that it's the OD relay.
I'm also told by the previous owner that the car sometimes wants to stall when the weather and andthe engine are cold.
in general, I think this is a very solid car, with 156k miles, no rust, new brakes and tires. I paid (cringe, waiting for someone to tell me I got ripped off) $1,500.
My questions are as follow:
1.) What tools will I need to inspect the OD relay> It looks like the glove box screws are standard phillips heads. I have a soldering iron and solder. What am I looking for once I get in there?
2.) Is this stalling issue a common problem and where should I begin looking for ways to remedy it?
(And, as if the first two aren't broad enough)
3.) What are the first things I should concern myself with as a new Volvo owner? I see that I should seek out the Bently manuel, which I will do. Anything else, particularly before the Michigan winter sets in?
Thanks in advance your your advice and for this really useful and friendly site.
Will
