Mechanic says I need new Inner Tie Rod Ends and Control Arm Bushings to pass inspection 200 1990

My inspection expires at the end of this month. I took the car to get aligned after I changed the front springs, strut inserts and ball joints. Outer tie rod ends looked passable. The shop said I had a worn passenger side inner tie rod and that therefore he couldn't align it and subsequently couldn't pass inspection. I thought when working on the aforementioned parts, that the driver side inner tie rod might have been a little worn - not the passenger side. Anyway, I took it to another mechanic to see what he would say. He said, and showed me, there was too much play on the driver side coming from the control arm bushings. So I ordered new bushings and inner tie rod ends. What I'd like to know is how other people have managed to remove and replace the bushings without using a blowtorch or other such radical measures. The steering rack is of the CAM design. Thanks for any advice. I've never changed bushings before. I know I have to get the A-arm out - but once it's out - how have you removed the bushings? How about inner tie rod ends? Advice is appreciated.
