Tracing a water leak(s?) 200 1992

Dear Brickboard:

I have a 1992 wagon with the flush-glazed windshield and a mystery leak. I get water at two places-around the fuse box, and dripping on my left foot when I'm driving. Should I assume all this is coming from the windshield--or is it possible that the cowl drain system is leaking? I work real hard to keep leaves and other trash out of the vent, so I don't think it's plugged up. I can run a hose into the vent and it drains out the rocker panel holes without leaking to the interior--does that test eliminate this as a possible source of the problem?

I've seen a previous post that the top door hinge can be a source of leaking. I can see how that might barely be the source for water around the fuse box, but could it possibly cause a drip further towards the front from under the dash? There isn't any under-dash cover on the left side, so any drip onto my foot is falling from somewhere higher up.

About the windshield: Can someone tell me whether I can pull up the flat black trim and reinstall it cleanly? I've never seen one taken apart so I don't know whether the visible piece is simply a snap-on trim or is integral with the sealing gasket.

Or, I could just inject sealant under the gasket all around. But if that doesn't stop it, then what?

I think the windshield is not original. It's got visible black sealant on the inside, which I assume the factory would not have let happen.

Thanks for any help you can provide. Sorry about the long post--I'm just trying to fully describe what's happening.

Doug Harvey
