battery draining 140-160 1971

As far as your battery being dead, it may have called it quits, however, the red amperage light staying on while the car is off, key out has happend to me before. I ended up taking my 142 to a shop and with a multimeter deteremined that I had mised a groud while hooking up my new alternator.
